Puppy Tales

Our first litter this year was born on March 18. We weren’t 100% sure Rattles was even pregnant, and then found out why she wasn’t showing when she only had one puppy, a beautiful little black boy with an endearing crooked white blaze down his face. I named him Toby, and Rattles, as always, was a great mom and such a sweetie for us to care for.

Two days later, Jazzy, who lives at my mom’s house delivered five beautiful babies, all black and tan with varying white markings. She had four girls and one boy, but sadly, a few days later one of the girls died, we’re still not sure what went wrong. The four remaining are Jessie, Nicky, Katie and Mandy.

As if two litters in three days wasn’t enough, Macarena (who is Jazzy’s mom), went into labor on March 21 and delivered five beautiful black puppies with different white markings. We were thrilled, but if you were counting, that now makes 11 puppies, all some form of black. Their names are Olivia (adopted), Chloe, Cody, Max, and Casey.

The last litter left was Dharma, who has a history of having loud colored babies, is black and tan, and so was Luke, so I was worried that we would have all black/tan babies this year. Two weeks later, on March 31, Dharma came through for us.  She had gotten so big she could hardly waddle around. We were getting worried about her. She started nesting the night before, but when it was time for us to go to work, there were still no puppies. So Jeremy took her to work with him, so he could help or get her to the vet if she needed it. He called me on my lunch, and told me she was popping out puppies left and right, and that the bed looked like a little rainbow. At the end of the day, they came home with seven large (for chihuahuas) puppies. Three creme, one white, one black/white, one chocolate and white, and of course, one more black/tan. This is a lot of puppies for one little mama to nurse, so I sent two of them to live with Rattles and Toby, and they gladly took them in. Now we have Isabella (who was just adopted), Ava, Macy, Noah, Jake, Dakota, and Oliver.
